President Buhari has directed the Vice chancellor of the Federal University in Otueke, Bayelsa state to refund the over payment of the salaries which is in millions. The President said this through the National salaries, income and wages commission,

David Suowari who is the registrar of the University was also ordered to return the sum of 130,692 Naira per month from his salary.
During the commission’s visit to the institution on May 12, 2014 the over payments were detected. The registrar and the Vice Chancellor in Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s village, Otueke were accused of adding certain allowanced to themselves which the Government didn’t approve.
NSIWC raised these concerns in a letter to Aluka, signed for Mr chairman of the commission by the Chike Ogbechie who is the Director of Compensation.
Below are what were discovered during the investigation in the Institution:
- The VC was being paid total sum of 1,970,476 Naira monthly instead of 922,810 Naira or 1,043,176 Naira after adding furniture allowance.
- Too much difference was added to some allowances which were not approved by the Governement .
- The commission discovered that the registrar was being paid 130,692 in excess to his normal salary which is 502,580 Naira.
- The commission also added that the University disaggregated some of its staff salary which was against the Government’s Policy of pay consolidation.
